How to type in Tamil
Type a Tamil word as it sounds; the Tamil script appears as you type. A consonant without a vowel after it gets a pulli (்) automatically — kaN gives கண்.

Frequently asked questions
How do I type Tamil using an English keyboard?
Type the Tamil word the way it sounds, in English letters — vaNakkam for வணக்கம், thamizh for தமிழ் — and the Tamil appears as you type. Use a capital letter for the second letter of a pair: N for ண, L for ள, R for ற.
How do I type long vowels like ஆ, ஈ and ஊ?
Double the vowel, or use a capital: aa or A for ஆ, ee, ii or I for ஈ, oo, uu or U for ஊ, E or ae for ஏ and O or oa for ஓ. A single vowel stays short — amma gives அம்ம, ammaa gives அம்மா.
Which n do I get — ந, ன or ண?
At the start of a word and before th or dh you get ந (naan நான், pandhu பந்து). Before d you get ண (kandu கண்டு), before g ங (thangam தங்கம்), and otherwise ன (avan அவன்). Type a capital N whenever you want ண — vaNakkam, kaNNan.
