Kural 611

பெருமை முயற்சி தரும்.

Arumai Utaiththendru Asaavaamai Ventum
Perumai Muyarsi Tharum

Meaning
Never lose heart by telling yourself that a task is too hard. Steady effort itself gives you the strength and standing needed to achieve it.
Classic translations
Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)
Yield not to the feebleness which says, "this is too difficult to be done"; labour will give the greatness (of mind) which is necessary (to do it).
Translation (G.U. Pope)

Kural 612

வினைக்கண் வினைகெடல் ஓம்பல் வினைக்குறை
தீர்ந்தாரின் தீர்ந்தன்று உலகு.

Vinaikkan Vinaiketal Ompal Vinaikkurai
Theerndhaarin Theerndhandru Ulaku

Meaning
Once you begin a task, guard it from being spoiled or dropped halfway. The world turns its back on those who abandon work they have left unfinished.
Classic translations
Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)
Take care not to give up exertion in the midst of a work; the world will abandon those who abandon their unfinished work.

In action be thou, 'ware of act's defeat; The world leaves those who work leave incomplete.

Classic translations
Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)

'மடி' என்றால் சோம்பல்; 'மாமுகடி' என்பது மூதேவி. கேட்டையும் செல்வத்தையும் இரு தெய்வங்களாக உருவகித்துச் சொல்லப்பட்டது. சோம்பல் கேட்டைத் தரும், உழைப்பு வளத்தைத் தரும் என்பதே கருத்து.
