- 'தொடி' என்பது ஒரு பலம் எடை; 'கஃசு' என்பது அதில் கால் பங்கு. உழுத மண்ணை ஒரு பலம் எடை கால் பலமாகக் குறையும் அளவுக்கு நன்றாகக் காய விட்டால், ஒரு பிடி எருவும் இடாமலேயே பயிர் மிகுதியாக விளையும். நிலத்தைப் பக்குவமாகப் பதப்படுத்துவதே நல்ல விளைச்சலுக்கு அடிப்படை.
