- My darkened eyes planted in me a sickness I cannot escape or survive, and now they themselves have run dry and cannot shed any more tears.

- 'உலந்த' என்பது வற்றிய; 'உய்வில் நோய்' என்பது மீள வழியில்லாத நோய். தப்பிப் பிழைக்க முடியாத காதல் நோயை என்னுள் நிலையாக வைத்துவிட்ட என் மை தீட்டிய கண்கள், இப்போது அழுது அழுது நீர் வற்றி, மேலும் கண்ணீர் சொரிய முடியாமல் போயின என்கிறாள் தலைவி. பிறருக்குத் துன்பம் தந்தவை தாமும் அதே துன்பத்தில் வாடும் என்னும் குறிப்பும் இதில் உண்டு.
