நெடுங்கடலும் தன்நீர்மை குன்றும் தடிந்தெழிலி

- If the clouds draw water up from the sea and do not give it back as rain, even the vast ocean will lose its richness and its very nature.

- 'எழிலி' என்பது மேகம்; 'தடிந்து' என்பது கடலிலிருந்து நீரை முகந்து எடுத்து என்ற பொருள் தரும். மேகம் கடல் நீரை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அதை மீண்டும் மழையாகத் திருப்பித் தராவிட்டால், அளவற்றதாகத் தோன்றும் பெருங்கடலும் தன் வளமும் இயல்பும் குறைந்துவிடும். நிலத்துக்கு மட்டுமன்றி கடலுக்கும் மழை தேவை என்பது இதன் கருத்து.
