Kural 20

Thirukkural 20: நீர்இன்று அமையாது உலகெனின் யார்யார்க்கும் – Meaning in English (The Blessing of Rain)

Kural 20

Neerindru Amaiyaadhu Ulakenin Yaaryaarkkum
Vaanindru Amaiyaadhu Ozhukku

Meaning
If no one's life can go on without water, then the flow of water itself cannot exist without rain. Some read the last word as right conduct, which likewise cannot last without rain.
Classic translations
Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)
If it be said that the duties of life cannot be discharged by any person without water, so without rain there cannot be the flowing of water.
Translation (G.U. Pope)
When water fails, functions of nature cease, you say; Thus when rain fails, no men can walk in 'duty's ordered way'.
