- ஒன்றும் இல்லாமல் வாடும் ஏழைக்கு ஏதேனும் ஒன்றைக் கொடுப்பதே உண்மையான ஈகை ஆகும். மற்றவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பவை எல்லாம், திரும்ப இவ்வளவு கிடைக்கும் என்று அளவு குறித்து எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொடுப்பவை. 'குறியெதிர்ப்பு' என்பது அளந்து கொடுத்து அதே அளவைத் திரும்பப் பெறுவதைக் குறிக்கும். எதையும் திருப்பித் தர இயலாதவருக்குக் கொடுப்பதில்தான் கொடையின் உண்மையான பொருள் இருக்கிறது.
