- தமக்கு வந்த துன்பத்தைப் பொறுமையோடு தாங்கிக்கொள்வதும், பிற உயிர்களுக்குச் சிறிதும் துன்பம் செய்யாமல் இருப்பதும் ஆகிய இவையே தவத்தின் வடிவம். 'நோன்றல்' என்றால் பொறுத்தல்; 'உறுகண்' என்றால் துன்பம்; 'உரு' என்றால் வடிவம். தவம் என்பது வெளித்தோற்றம் அல்ல; தான் வலியைத் தாங்கி, பிறருக்கு வலி தராமல் வாழ்வதே உண்மையான தவம். இந்தப் பண்பு அன்றாட வாழ்விலும் ஒருவரை உயர்த்தும்.
