Kural 288
Alavarindhaar Nenjath Tharampola Nirkum
Kalavarindhaar Nenjil Karavu
- Meaning
- Just as goodness stays firmly in the hearts of those who know proper limits, deceit settles firmly in the hearts of those practised in stealing.
Classic translations
- Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)
- Deceit dwells in the mind of those who are conversant with fraud, even as virtue in the minds of those who are conversant with rectitude.
- Translation (G.U. Pope)
- As virtue dwells in heart that 'measured wisdom' gains; Deceit in hearts of fraudful men established reigns.
