- Whatever a person has let go of, that particular thing can no longer cause him pain. The more things one frees oneself from, the fewer the sources of suffering.

- ஒருவன் எந்த எந்தப் பொருளின் மீதுள்ள பற்றை விட்டு விலகுகிறானோ, அந்த அந்தப் பொருளால் அவனுக்குத் துன்பம் வருவதில்லை. 'யாதனின் யாதனின்' என்று இருமுறை சொல்லியிருப்பது, விடும் ஒவ்வொன்றுக்கும் இது பொருந்தும் என்பதைக் காட்டுகிறது. விடும் அளவுக்கு ஏற்ப துன்பமும் குறைகிறது. நாம் எதை இறுகப் பற்றிக்கொள்கிறோமோ, அதை இழக்கும்போதுதான் பெரிதும் வருந்துகிறோம் என்பதை அன்றாட வாழ்விலும் காணலாம்.
