Kural 368

Thirukkural 368: அவாஇல்லார்க் கில்லாகுந் துன்பம் அஃதுண்டேல் – Meaning in English (Curbing of Desire)

Kural 368

Avaaillaark Killaakun Thunpam Aqdhuntel
Thavaaadhu Menmel Varum

Meaning
Those without desire know no sorrow; but where desire exists, sorrow keeps coming, piling up endlessly one after another.
Classic translations
Meaning (W.H. Drew & John Lazarus)
There is no sorrow to those who are without desire; but where that is, (sorrow) will incessantly come, more and more.
Translation (G.U. Pope)
Affliction is not known where no desires abide; Where these are, endless rises sorrow's tide.
