- மணலில் தோண்டிய கிணற்றில் தோண்டும் அளவுக்கு ஏற்ப நீர் ஊறிக்கொண்டே இருக்கும். அதுபோல மனிதர் கற்கும் அளவுக்கு ஏற்ப அவர்களின் அறிவும் பெருகிக்கொண்டே இருக்கும். 'தொட்டனை' என்பது தோண்டிய அளவு என்று பொருள்படும். தொடர்ந்து படிப்பவருக்கு அறிவு வற்றாத ஊற்றாக அமையும்.
