- வீரம் (மறம்), மானம், முன்னோர் சென்ற சிறந்த வழியிலேயே நடத்தல், அரசன் நம்பத்தக்க உறுதி (தேற்றம்) ஆகிய நான்குமே படைக்குப் பாதுகாப்பு (ஏமம்) ஆகும். இந்த நான்கு பண்புகளும் நிறைந்திருந்தால் படை சிதையாமல் நிலைத்து நிற்கும். ஆயுதங்களை விட இப்பண்புகளே படையை உண்மையில் காக்கின்றன.
