How matchstick puzzles work
Every digit is made of matchsticks, like on a digital clock: 8 uses all seven, 1 uses two. Take a stick from anywhere — a digit or the + sign — and put it somewhere else so that the sum becomes true. Easy puzzles need 1 move, medium 2 and hard 3. You may not add or remove sticks, only move them.
Play right on the puzzle: drag a stick to where it goes, or tap it and then tap its new place. Once you have made all your moves, the puzzle tells you if the sum is right. Show answer draws the fix, with the moved sticks in green.
Each puzzle has a short code (like M2-K3X9Q) in its link, so the person you send it to sees exactly the same puzzle.
Frequently asked questions
Can there be more than one answer?
Sometimes. Easy and hard puzzles can have two; medium puzzles have just one. Any of them counts, and the answer shows them all. No puzzle can be solved with fewer moves than it asks for.
How do I move a stick?
Drag it with your finger to where it goes and let go. Or tap a stick to pick it up (it glows, and every free place shows as a dotted line), then tap a dotted line to put it there. Stuck after a try? Tap Hint and the stick that has to move glows. A stick can move inside a digit, between digits, or to and from the + and − signs; the = stays put. Tap Reset to start again.
How do I send it on WhatsApp?
Tap Send on WhatsApp. On a phone the puzzle goes as a picture you can send to any chat or put on your Status; on a computer it goes as a message. Both carry a link to the answer, so nobody has to ask you for it.
