Biography
Aravind Swamy, born on September 18, 1970, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, is a celebrated Indian actor and former model who has made a lasting impact on Tamil cinema. The son of industrialist Swaminathan, Arvind began his career as a model before making his acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s critically acclaimed “Thalapathi” (1991), where he starred alongside Rajinikanth and Mammootty.
His collaboration with Mani Ratnam continued to yield iconic performances in “Roja” (1992), which won three National Film Awards, and the romantic classic “Bombay” (1995). He also starred in the blockbuster “Alaipayuthey” (2000) alongside Madhavan, a film that remains a benchmark in Tamil romantic cinema.
After a hiatus from cinema, Arvind Swamy made a triumphant comeback with “Thani Oruvan” (2015), playing the sophisticated antagonist, a role that earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. His portrayal of MGR in “Thalaivii” (2021) was widely praised for its remarkable transformation. He has also appeared in notable films like “Dear Dad” (2016) and “Chekka Chivantha Vaanam” (2018).
