Biography
Arya, born Jamshad Cethirakath on December 11, 1980, in Trikaripur, Kasaragod district, Kerala, is a popular Indian actor and producer who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. Known for his charming screen presence and willingness to take on unconventional roles, he has established himself as one of Tamil cinema’s most versatile actors.
Arya made his acting debut in “Arinthum Ariyamalum” (2005), directed by Vishnuvardhan, which was a commercial success. He followed this with acclaimed performances in Bala’s “Naan Kadavul” (2009), where he played a menacing Aghori, and the period romance “Madrasapattinam” (2010). His romantic comedy “Boss Engira Bhaskaran” (2010) and the multi-starrer “Raja Rani” (2013) were also major hits.
Arya gained widespread appreciation for his physical transformation and performance in “Sarpatta Parambarai” (2021), directed by Pa. Ranjith, where he played a boxer in 1970s North Madras. The film was critically acclaimed and became a cult favourite. He is also a film producer, having produced films through his production company The Show People. His recent films include “Captain” (2022) and “Teddy” (2021). Arya is married to actress Sayyeshaa Saigal, and the couple has a daughter.
