Biography

Bhanupriya, born Manga Bhama on January 15, 1966, in Rangampeta, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, is a veteran Indian actress and classical dancer who has worked extensively in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema. With over 150 films spanning more than three decades, she is one of the most respected actresses of her generation.

Bhanupriya made her acting debut in the Telugu film “Sitara” (1983) and quickly became a top heroine in Telugu cinema. In Tamil cinema, she gained immense popularity with films like “Chinna Thambi” (1991) opposite Prabhu, “Gopura Vasalile” (1991) opposite Karthik, and “Kizhakku Cheemayile” (1993). Her pairing with Prabhu was particularly popular with Tamil audiences.

A trained Kuchipudi dancer, Bhanupriya is renowned for her graceful dance sequences in films, which were often highlights of the movies she appeared in. She won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Telugu. In Hindi cinema, she appeared in films like “Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe” (1989). She has transitioned to character roles in recent years and continues to appear in films and television. She remains remembered as one of the most elegant and talented dancers-turned-actresses in Indian cinema.
