Biography
Jayam Ravi, born Ravi Mohan on September 10, 1980, in Tirumangalam, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu, is one of Tamil cinema’s most consistent and successful leading actors. He is the son of film editor Mohan and the younger brother of director M. Raja.
Jayam Ravi made his acting debut in “Jayam” (2003), directed by his brother M. Raja, which became a massive commercial hit and earned him the “Jayam” prefix to his name. He followed this with successes like “M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi” (2004), “Unakkum Enakkum” (2006), and “Santhosh Subramaniam” (2008). His romantic hero image gradually evolved as he took on diverse roles.
His performance in “Thani Oruvan” (2015), where he played an IPS officer in a cat-and-mouse game with Arvind Swamy, was a massive critical and commercial success. He further proved his versatility with the space thriller “Tik Tik Tik” (2018), India’s first space film, and the action drama “Comali” (2019). His recent work includes “Ponniyin Selvan: I” (2022) and “Ponniyin Selvan: II” (2023) directed by Mani Ratnam, where he played Arunmozhi Varman (Raja Raja Cholan). He has won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor and continues to be a leading force in Tamil cinema.
