Biography
Amaresh Ganesh Chakravarthy, popularly known as Jiiva, was born on January 4, 1984, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is the son of renowned film producer R.B. Choudary and brother of producer R.B. Laxman. Jiiva made his acting debut as a child artist in “Namma Annachi” (1994) before his lead debut in “Aasai Aasaiyai” (2003).
His breakthrough came with the blockbuster “Dishyum” (2006), and he went on to deliver a string of commercial successes including “E” (2006), “Kattradhu Thamizh” (2007), where his intense performance as an unemployed Tamil scholar earned critical acclaim, and “Saroja” (2008). His portrayal in “Ko” (2011) as an investigative photojournalist was praised for its depth and conviction.
Jiiva gained wider recognition with “Nanban” (2012), the Tamil remake of “3 Idiots”, alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Srikanth, and the cricket-themed drama “Mugamoodi” (2012). His other notable films include “Yaan” (2014), “Pokkiri Raja” (2010), and “Gorilla” (2019). He has also appeared in multilingual projects, expanding his reach beyond Tamil cinema.
As a producer through Super Good Films, the family production house founded by his father, Jiiva has contributed to Tamil cinema both in front of and behind the camera. Known for his boyish charm and diverse role selection, he remains an enduring presence in Kollywood.
