Jonita Gandhi, born on October 23, 1989, in New Delhi, India, is a Canadian-Indian playback singer and performer who has become one of the most popular voices in contemporary Indian cinema. Raised in Toronto, Canada, she gained initial recognition through YouTube cover videos before transitioning to professional playback singing.
Jonita’s YouTube covers caught the attention of A.R. Rahman, who brought her into the Indian film music scene. Her big break came when she sang “The Breakup Song” from “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” (2016) composed by Pritam, which became a nationwide hit. She has since recorded numerous songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other languages.
