Biography

Jyothika Sadanah, born on October 18, 1978, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is one of Tamil cinema’s most acclaimed and beloved actresses. The daughter of film producer Chander Sadanah, she made her acting debut in the Hindi film “Doli Saja Ke Rakhna” (1998) before finding her true calling in Tamil cinema.

Jyotika became a household name with her performances in “Vaali” (1999), “Kushi” (2000), “Mugavaree” (2000), and “Kaakha Kaakha” (2003). Her on-screen pairing with Suriya became one of Tamil cinema’s most popular, and the couple married in 2006. She took a sabbatical from acting to focus on family before making a celebrated comeback.

Her comeback films showcased her range as an actor — “36 Vayadhinile” (2015), “Magalir Mattum” (2017), “Naachiyaar” (2018), and the critically acclaimed “Ratchasi” (2019) where she played a school headmistress. She continued to choose strong, women-centric roles in “Ponmagal Vandhal” (2020) and “Udanpirappe” (2021). Jyotika has won multiple Filmfare Awards for Best Actress - Tamil and remains one of the most respected actresses in South Indian cinema for her consistent choice of meaningful roles.
