Biography

Kajol, born Kajol Devgan on August 5, 1974, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is one of Bollywood’s most iconic and successful actresses. She comes from a prominent film family — her mother is actress Tanuja, her aunt is the legendary Nutan, and her grandmother was actress Shobhna Samarth.

Kajol made her acting debut with “Bekhudi” (1992) and rose to fame with “Baazigar” (1993) opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She became one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and 2000s with landmark films like “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995), “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998), “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” (2001), and “My Name Is Khan” (2010) — all alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Their on-screen pairing is considered one of Bollywood’s most iconic.

Kajol has won six Filmfare Awards for Best Actress, making her one of the most decorated actresses in Hindi cinema. She has a significant connection to Tamil cinema through her husband, actor-filmmaker Ajay Devgn, and has been a familiar face at South Indian film events. Her recent work includes “Tribhanga” (2021) and “Salaam Venky” (2022). Known for her spontaneous, powerhouse performances and her infectious laugh, Kajol has been honoured with the Padma Shri (2011) for her contributions to Indian cinema.
