Biography
Karthik Muthuraman, born on September 13, 1960, in Madras (now Chennai), is one of Tamil cinema’s most iconic romantic heroes. The son of legendary actor R. Muthuraman, Karthik made his debut in “Alaigal Oivathillai” (1981) directed by Bharathiraja, which became a massive hit and established him as a rising star.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Karthik dominated Tamil cinema with his charming screen presence and versatile acting. He delivered memorable performances in films like “Mouna Ragam” (1986) directed by Mani Ratnam, “Agni Natchathiram” (1988), “Moun Geetham” (1991), and “Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal” (1989). His romantic pairing with actresses like Revathi, Radha, and Ilavarasi became hugely popular with audiences.
Karthik is also a talented playback singer, having sung several hit songs in his own films and for other actors. His directorial ventures include “Kizhakku Veedhi” (1990) and other films. He has acted in over 150 films across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.
His son Gautham Karthik followed him into the film industry as an actor. Karthik received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Tamil) and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award during his illustrious career.
