Biography

Kushboo, born Nakhat Khan on September 29, 1970, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a celebrated Indian actress, television presenter, producer, and politician who became one of Tamil cinema’s biggest female stars in the late 1980s and 1990s. She has acted in over 200 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

Kushboo began her career as a child artist in Hindi films before making her Tamil debut with “Dharma Yuddham” (1988). She quickly became one of the most sought-after heroines in Tamil cinema, starring in blockbusters like “Chinna Thambi” (1991) opposite Prabhu, “Singaravelan” (1992) with Kamal Haasan, “Thiruda Thiruda” (1993) directed by Mani Ratnam, and “Avvai Shanmugi” (1996) with Kamal Haasan. Her on-screen chemistry with actors like Prabhu, Vijayakanth, and Sarath Kumar made her a household name.

Beyond cinema, Kushboo has been a prominent television host and entered politics, joining the DMK party. She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and has been an outspoken advocate for women’s rights and social causes. She is married to actor-director Sundar C. and has been honoured with the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for her contributions to Tamil cinema.
