Biography

Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, born on April 9, 1984, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a National Award-winning Indian actress known for her powerful performances in Tamil cinema. She completed her master’s degree in social work specialising in human resources from the Madras School of Social Work and initially worked as an HR professional before turning to acting.

Remarkably, Lakshmi Priyaa was a competitive gymnast from age 10 and played cricket at the national level, representing India’s B national cricket team. She joined the theatre group Evam and began her acting career through stage performances.

Her first film in a lead role was the black comedy “Sutta Kadhai,” where she played a bold tribal girl called Silanthi, performing her own stunts. Her career-defining performance came in “Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum” (2018), where she played the titular role of Sivaranjini, a college athlete navigating early marriage and societal expectations. This powerful performance earned her the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She has since appeared in acclaimed films including “Karnan” (2021) with Dhanush, “Soppana Sundari” (2023), and “Thanal” (2025). Known for her commitment to meaningful cinema and her extraordinary personal achievements in sports, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli is one of Tamil cinema’s most respected actresses.
