Biography

Saamy, known professionally as Swaminathan and popularly as Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, born on January 31, 1959, is an Indian actor and comedian who has been a fixture in Tamil film and television. He made his cinema debut in 1987 with “Chinnapoove Mellapesu” and subsequently appeared in small roles in various films including “Udan Pirappu” and “Arunachalam.”

His career-defining opportunity came with the Star Vijay comedy series “Lollu Sabha” (2003-2008), a satirical show that brilliantly parodied popular Tamil films, where he became one of the ensemble’s most beloved performers alongside Santhanam and Manohar. The show’s massive popularity catapulted him into mainstream Tamil cinema, where he frequently collaborated with Santhanam as a comedy duo.

His memorable film roles include the arrear student in “Boss Engira Baskaran” (2010), the Swamiji in “Oru Kal Oru Kannadi” (2012), and the flat secretary in “Raja Rani” (2013). He is also well known for his performances in “Ethir Neechal” (2013) and “Vai Raja Vai” (2015).

Known for his impeccable comic timing, his ability to create memorable characters from brief screen appearances, and his legendary association with the “Lollu Sabha” brand, Swaminathan remains one of Tamil cinema’s most cherished comedians.
