Biography
Meena, born Meena Durairaj on September 16, 1976, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a versatile Indian actress who has worked extensively in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. With a career spanning over four decades and more than 300 films, she is one of the most prolific and respected actresses in South Indian cinema.
Meena began her career as a child artist at the age of six in the Tamil film “Nenjangal” (1982) and the Telugu film “Neti Bharatam” (1983). She transitioned to lead roles as a teenager with “En Rasavin Manasilae” (1991). She starred in numerous blockbusters including “Muthu” (1995) opposite Rajinikanth, “Avvai Shanmugi” (1996) with Kamal Haasan, “Ponnumani” (1993), and the iconic “Indian” (1996) directed by Shankar.
In Telugu cinema, she delivered memorable performances alongside Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and Venkatesh. Her role in the Malayalam film “Drishyam” (2013) opposite Mohanlal was widely praised. Meena has won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Actress, the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Tamil, and the Nandi Award for Best Actress. She continues to appear in films, most recently in “Bholaa Shankar” (2023) and other projects, remaining a beloved figure in South Indian cinema.
