Biography

Meera Jasmine, born Jasmine Mary Joseph on February 15, 1984, in Thiruvalla, Kerala, is an Indian actress who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. She is one of the few South Indian actresses to have won the National Film Award for Best Actress, recognising her exceptional talent.

Meera Jasmine made her acting debut in the Malayalam film “Soothradharan” (2001) and gained immediate recognition. Her breakthrough came with “Paadam Onnu: Oru Vilapam” (2003), a powerful drama about a mother’s struggle, which earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress — a remarkable achievement early in her career.

In Tamil cinema, she appeared in popular films including “Run” (2002) opposite Madhavan, “Bala” (2002), and “Sandakozhi” (2005) opposite Vishal. She was equally successful in Telugu cinema with “Bhadra” (2005) opposite Prabhas and several other hits. Meera Jasmine was known for her expressive eyes, naturalistic acting style, and girl-next-door appeal. She won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress and multiple Filmfare nominations. After a hiatus from films, she has been selectively returning to cinema in recent years, carrying with her the legacy of being one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation.
