Mohan

Mohan Rangachari, born on May 10, 1956, in Madras (now Chennai), popularly known as “Mike Mohan,” is one of Tamil cinema’s most iconic romantic heroes of the 1980s and early 1990s. He earned his famous moniker “Mike Mohan” due to his resemblance to the Hollywood star of that era and his suave, charming persona.

Mohan made his acting debut with “Payanangal Mudivathillai” (1982) directed by R.C. Sakthi, and quickly became one of the top romantic leads of his generation. His gentle demeanour, soft-spoken personality, and romantic screen presence made him immensely popular with audiences. He delivered memorable performances in films like “Mouna Ragam” (1986) by Mani Ratnam, “Idhaya Kovil” (1985), “Mouna Geethangal” (1981), and “Samsaram Adhu Minsaram” (1986).

Throughout the 1980s, Mohan was paired with all the leading actresses of the era and was known for choosing films with strong scripts and musical content. He acted in over 200 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. His collaboration with music director Ilaiyaraaja produced numerous melodious hit songs that remain popular to this day.

Known for his understated elegance, romantic charm, and the numerous iconic songs picturised on him, Mohan remains a cherished figure in Tamil cinema. His films from the 1980s continue to be celebrated as classics of Tamil romantic cinema.
