Biography
Prabhu Deva Sundaram, born on April 3, 1973, in Mysore, Karnataka, is one of India’s most celebrated dancers, choreographers, actors, and directors. The son of renowned choreographer Mugur Sundar, Prabhu Deva inherited his father’s passion for dance and went on to earn the title “Indian Michael Jackson” for his extraordinary dancing abilities.
Prabhu Deva made his acting debut with “Indhu” (1994) in Tamil and quickly became a star with blockbusters like “Kadhalan” (1994), which featured iconic dance sequences that remain benchmarks in Indian cinema. His performances in “Love Birds” (1996), “VIP” (1997), and “Minsara Kanavu” (1997) cemented his status as a unique talent who combined athletic dancing with acting ability.
As a choreographer, Prabhu Deva has worked on over 100 films across multiple languages, creating some of Indian cinema’s most memorable dance sequences. His choreography for “Muqabala” from “Kadhalan” and “Kay Sera Sera” from “Pukar” (2000) became cultural phenomena.
He transitioned to direction with “Pokkiri” (2007), a Tamil blockbuster starring Vijay, and went on to direct Hindi hits like “Wanted” (2009), “Rowdy Rathore” (2012), and “R… Rajkumar” (2013). He has directed “Dabangg 3” (2019) and continues to work across languages.
Known for his electrifying dance moves, directorial commercial instincts, and his contributions to Indian dance culture, Prabhu Deva is one of Indian cinema’s most unique and versatile artists.
