Biography

Raghava Lawrence, born on December 29, 1976, in Royapuram, Chennai, is a multifaceted Indian artist who has excelled as an actor, director, choreographer, and philanthropist. He began his career as a backup dancer and choreographer, working his way up from humble beginnings to become one of Tamil cinema’s most versatile talents.

Lawrence gained recognition as a choreographer, working on numerous hit songs before making his acting debut in the Tamil film “Muni” (2007), which he also directed. The film became a massive hit and spawned the hugely successful horror-comedy franchise. “Kanchana” (2011) and its sequels “Kanchana 2” (2015) and “Kanchana 3” (2019) were all blockbusters that cemented his status as a bankable star in the horror-comedy genre.

His directorial and acting venture “Muni 2: Kanchana” became one of Tamil cinema’s highest-grossing horror films. He also directed and starred in “Laxmii” (2020), the Hindi remake featuring Akshay Kumar. Other notable works include “Aranmanai 4” (2024) and “Durga” (2024).

Lawrence is equally renowned for his philanthropic work through the Raghava Lawrence Charitable Trust, which provides free education, food, and medical aid to underprivileged children. He built a school for the hearing-impaired and has supported numerous social causes. His journey from a struggling dancer to a celebrated filmmaker and humanitarian has inspired millions, making him one of the most admired personalities in South Indian cinema.
