Biography
Ramarajan, born on October 18, 1960, in Kamuthi, Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu, is a beloved Tamil actor known as “Graamathu Nayagan” (Village Hero) for his iconic portrayals of rural characters. He made his acting debut in “Aval Sumangalithan” (1985) and rose to massive fame with “Enga Ooru Pattukaran” (1987), directed by Gangai Amaran.
Ramarajan dominated the late 1980s and early 1990s with a string of blockbusters that celebrated rural Tamil life. His films “Gramathu Minnal” (1987), “Enga Ooru Kavalkaran” (1988), “Porkkalam” (1988), “Ennai Vittu Pogaathe” (1989), and “En Rasavin Manasile” (1991) were massive commercial successes. His pairing with actress Rekha was one of the most popular on-screen couples of that era.
What made Ramarajan unique was his ability to authentically portray village characters with dignity, combining romance, action, and folk culture. His films typically featured rural settings, folk music by Ilaiyaraaja, and stories about the common man standing up against injustice.
