Ramya Krishnan, born on September 15, 1970, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is one of the most accomplished actresses in Indian cinema, with a career spanning over four decades and more than 200 films across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and began her film career at a young age.
Ramya Krishnan made her acting debut in the Kannada film “Vichitra Prema” (1984) at the age of 13. She became a leading star in Telugu cinema with films like “Sutradharulu” (1989) and established herself in Tamil cinema with iconic roles in “Padayappa” (1999) opposite Rajinikanth, where her portrayal of the ambitious Neelambari remains one of Tamil cinema’s most memorable antagonist performances.
She gained worldwide recognition for her role as Sivagami Devi in the “Baahubali” franchise (2015, 2017), directed by S.S. Rajamouli. The character became iconic and cemented her status as a pan-Indian star. She also played the lead in the web series “Queen” (2019), based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa. Ramya Krishnan has won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Telugu, the Nandi Award, and multiple state awards. She continues to be an active and respected presence in Indian cinema.
