Biography

Asha Kelunni Nair, professionally known as Revathi, born on July 8, 1966, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is an acclaimed Indian actress and director who has left an indelible mark on South Indian cinema spanning over four decades. She made her acting debut in the Malayalam film “Ente Kanakkuyil” (1985) and quickly became one of the most respected actresses in Indian cinema.

Revathi’s Tamil filmography includes iconic performances in “Mouna Ragam” (1986) directed by Mani Ratnam, where her portrayal of Divya remains one of Tamil cinema’s most memorable female characters. She starred in numerous other Tamil classics including “Kizhakku Vasal” (1990), “Thevar Magan” (1992) alongside Kamal Haasan and Sivaji Ganesan, and “Indian” (1996). Her pairing with Karthik in multiple films was immensely popular with audiences.

As a director, Revathi has helmed critically acclaimed films like “Mitr, My Friend” (2002), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English, “Phir Milenge” (2004), and “2 Harihar Nagar” (2009). She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Thevar Magan” (1992).

Revathi has received the Padma Shri from the Government of India for her contributions to cinema. Known for her naturalistic acting style, directorial vision, and ability to portray complex women characters, she remains one of the most respected and accomplished figures in Indian cinema.
