Robo Shankar, born Shankar on August 2, 1979, in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, is a popular Tamil film actor and comedian known for his energetic comedy style and physical humour. He earned his stage name “Robo” from his signature robotic dance moves during his early career as a mimicry and stage performer.

Robo Shankar began his career performing mimicry and comedy on stage shows before entering the film industry. He gained initial recognition through the television show “Kalakka Povathu Yaaru” on Vijay TV, which showcased his comedy talent. He made his film debut with small roles and gradually earned meatier comedy tracks in major Tamil films.

His breakthrough in cinema came through consistently funny performances in blockbusters like “Kaththi” (2014), “Theri” (2016), “Mersal” (2017), “Sarkar” (2018), and “Bigil” (2019) — notably in several Vijay starrers where his comedy tracks became audience favourites. He also delivered memorable performances in “Viswasam” (2019) and “Master” (2021).
