Biography

Roja Selvamani, born on September 17, 1972, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, is an Indian actress and politician who gained fame through her work in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. She made her acting debut in the Telugu film “Pedda Rayudu” (1991) and quickly became one of the most popular actresses of the 1990s.

In Tamil cinema, Roja delivered memorable performances in films like “Chembaruthi” (1992) opposite Prashanth, “Pudhu Nellu Pudhu Naathu” (1991), “Periyanna” (1999) with Vijayakanth, and “Vetri Kodi Kattu” (2000). Her vivacious personality and energetic screen presence made her a favourite among Tamil audiences. She appeared in over 100 films across multiple South Indian languages.

Roja transitioned to politics and joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh. She was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Nagari constituency in Andhra Pradesh. She served as the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister under Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government, becoming one of the most prominent film personalities to enter active politics.

Known for her outspoken nature both in cinema and politics, Roja also appeared as a judge on popular television reality shows. Her successful transition from a leading actress to a cabinet minister makes her one of the most notable personalities to bridge the worlds of entertainment and governance in South India.
