Senthil

Senthil, born on March 23, 1951, in Ilayangudi, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, is one of the greatest comedians in the history of Tamil cinema. He began his career in theatre before making his film debut in “Anbukku Naan Adimai” (1980), directed by S.P. Muthuraman.

Senthil achieved legendary status through his iconic comedy partnership with Goundamani, which became one of the most celebrated comedy duos in Indian cinema history. Together, they delivered unforgettable comedy sequences in over 200 films spanning the 1980s and 1990s. Their wordplay, physical comedy, and impeccable timing in films like “Karakattakaran” (1989), “Gentleman” (1993), “Indian” (1996), “Baashha” (1995), and “Avvai Shanmugi” (1996) remain timeless classics that continue to entertain generations of Tamil audiences.

As a solo comedian, Senthil also delivered memorable performances in films like “Sathi Leelavathi” (1995) and “Ullathai Allitha” (1996). He has appeared in over 400 films, making him one of the most prolific comedians in Indian cinema.

Senthil received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian multiple times during his career. His rubber-faced expressions, distinctive dialogue delivery, and ability to create humour from everyday situations made him a household name. The Goundamani-Senthil comedy duo is considered a golden chapter in Tamil cinema, and Senthil’s contribution to Tamil humour remains unmatched.
