Biography

M.K. Stalin, born Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin on March 1, 1953, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, is a prominent Indian politician serving as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu since May 2021. He is the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the son of the late five-time Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Stalin has been actively involved in politics from a young age, participating in the anti-Hindi agitation movement as a teenager. He served as the Mayor of Chennai from 1996 to 2002, during which he oversaw significant improvements in the city’s infrastructure. He later served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2009 to 2011.

After his father M. Karunanidhi’s passing in 2018, Stalin was elected as the president of the DMK. He led the party to a decisive victory in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, ending the AIADMK’s ten-year tenure in power. As Chief Minister, he has focused on governance reforms, social welfare programs, and infrastructure development. Known for his grassroots connect and disciplined political approach, Stalin has established himself as one of the most prominent leaders in contemporary Indian politics.
