Biography
Sundar C., born Sundar Chakravarthy on January 21, 1968, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a prolific Indian film director, actor, and screenwriter who has been a key figure in Tamil commercial cinema for over three decades. He is married to actress Kushboo, and together they are one of Tamil cinema’s most prominent couples.
Sundar C. began his career as an assistant director before making his directorial debut with “Maalavika” (1991). He rose to prominence directing crowd-pleasing commercial entertainers including “Arunachalam” (1997) starring Rajinikanth, which became a massive blockbuster. His other notable directorial works include “Ullathai Allitha” (1996), “Aambala” (2015), the “Kalakalappu” franchise, and the “Aranmanai” horror-comedy franchise which became a hugely popular series.
As an actor, Sundar C. has appeared in numerous films, often in his own directorial ventures like “Thalai Nagaram” (2006), “Kalakalappu” (2012), and “Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu” (2018). He is known for his ability to deliver mass-market entertainers that perform well at the box office. With his production company Avni Cinemax, he has produced several films. Sundar C. has directed over 40 films in his career and continues to be one of Tamil cinema’s most commercially successful directors.
