Biography
Sai Shravanam Thaman, professionally known as S. Thaman, born on November 16, 1983, in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, is one of South India’s most prolific and commercially successful music composers. The son of music director Rajakrishna, Thaman began his musical career early and started as a drummer before composing independently.
Thaman made his debut as a music director with the Tamil film “Sindhanai Sei” (2009) and gained recognition in Tamil cinema with soundtracks like “Osthe” (2011), “Alex Pandian” (2013), and several other commercially successful films. However, his biggest impact has been in Telugu cinema, where he became the go-to composer for blockbusters.
His career reached new heights with the soundtrack of “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo” (2020), which became a massive musical hit. He composed the iconic music for “Varisu” (2023) starring Vijay and the blockbuster “Ponniyin Selvan I” (2022) directed by Mani Ratnam. His recent Telugu hits include “Bheemla Nayak” (2022) and “Waltair Veerayya” (2023).
Thaman has composed music for over 100 films across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages. He has won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction and multiple Filmfare Awards. Known for his energetic, bass-heavy compositions, catchy refrains, and prolific output, S. Thaman continues to be one of the most commercially dominant music directors in South Indian cinema.
