Biography

Vidyasagar, born on March 2, 1963, in Kollam, Kerala, is a highly acclaimed Indian music composer who has made significant contributions to Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. A classically trained musician, he is known for his melody-driven compositions that have produced some of the most beloved songs in South Indian cinema.

Vidyasagar made his debut as a music director in the Malayalam film “Thooval Kottaram” (1996) and gained widespread acclaim in Tamil cinema with his work on “Friends” (2001), starring Vijay, which featured chartbusting songs. His subsequent collaborations with top Tamil filmmakers produced iconic soundtracks including “Dhool” (2003), “Ghilli” (2004) - one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of that decade - “Sachein” (2005), and “Pokkiri” (2007).

His melodious compositions in films like “Priyamaanavale” (2000), “Chellamae” (2004), “Anniyan” (2005), and “Sivakasi” (2005) demonstrated his mastery of creating both mass-appeal numbers and soulful melodies. His music for the Malayalam film “Classmates” (2006) is considered one of the finest Malayalam soundtracks ever.

Vidyasagar has won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director and has been nominated for numerous Filmfare Awards. Known for his rich orchestral arrangements, memorable melodies, and the emotional depth of his compositions, he remains one of the most respected music directors in South Indian cinema history.
