Mookuthi Amman 2 is the sequel to the 2020 devotional comedy Mookuthi Amman, directed by Sundar C. Nayanthara reprises her role as the goddess Mookuthi Amman, with Urvashi also returning to the cast. The original film, co-directed by RJ Balaji, was a family entertainer that blended devotional themes with sharp social commentary, following a struggling journalist whose life is transformed when the village goddess physically manifests to help him.

The first Mookuthi Amman premiered on Disney+ Hotstar during Diwali 2020, when theatres were closed due to the pandemic. Despite the direct-to-OTT release, it resonated with audiences across Tamil Nadu, particularly for its satirical take on godmen and commercial exploitation of faith. Sundar C, a veteran of Tamil commercial cinema with over 40 directorial credits spanning comedies, horror films, and action entertainers, takes the helm for the sequel. The supporting cast includes Duniya Vijay, Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu, and Iniya, suggesting a broader canvas than the original. The sequel is expected to continue the blend of comedy, devotion, and social messaging that defined the first film while introducing new antagonists and comedic situations.
