Pisasu 2
Director: mysskin
Music: karthik-raja
Synopsis
Pisasu 2 is the sequel to Mysskin’s 2014 supernatural thriller Pisasu, directed once again by Mysskin himself. The film stars Andrea Jeremiah, who returns from the original, alongside Vijay Sethupathi in what marks a notable collaboration between two of Tamil cinema’s most distinctive talents. The original Pisasu stood apart from typical Tamil horror fare by favoring atmospheric dread over jump scares, telling the story of a violinist haunted by the spirit of a woman who died near him.
Mysskin is one of Tamil cinema’s most singular filmmakers, known for a visual style heavily influenced by Western noir and classic Hollywood. His films, including Nandalala, Anjathey, Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum, and Psycho, are marked by their dark tone, deliberate pacing, and philosophical underpinnings. Pisasu was a departure from his usual crime-centric work, proving he could bring the same level of craft and restraint to the horror genre. Karthik Raja’s haunting musical score was integral to the original film’s unsettling mood.
With Vijay Sethupathi joining the cast, Pisasu 2 brings together an actor celebrated for his versatility with a director known for extracting deeply committed performances. Andrea Jeremiah, who played the ghostly presence in the first film, adds continuity to the franchise. The sequel retains the horror-thriller classification but is expected to expand the narrative scope beyond the intimate, two-character framework of its predecessor.
Pisasu 2 represents a rare instance in Tamil cinema where a sequel to a critically admired, modestly budgeted horror film attempts to scale up while retaining the artistic sensibilities that defined the original. For fans of Mysskin’s distinctive brand of atmospheric filmmaking, the film promises a return to the eerie, contemplative horror that made the first Pisasu a cult favorite.
