- வறுமையைவிடத் துன்பம் தருவது எது என்று கேட்டால், வறுமைக்கு நிகராக வறுமை ஒன்றே உள்ளது என்பதுதான் விடை. அதாவது, வறுமையோடு ஒப்பிடக்கூடிய வேறு துன்பம் உலகில் இல்லை. எல்லாத் துன்பங்களிலும் கொடியது பொருள் இல்லாத நிலையே என்பதை வள்ளுவர் இவ்வாறு வலியுறுத்துகிறார்.
