- இவள் பெண்மைக்குரிய நல்ல இயல்புகள் நிறைந்த, கள்ளம் அறியாத இளம்பெண். ஆனால் இவளுடைய கண்களோ, பார்ப்பவர்களின் உயிரைக் குடிப்பது போன்ற தோற்றம் கொண்டுள்ளன. இவளின் மென்மையான இயல்புக்கும் கொடிய கண்களுக்கும் பொருத்தமே இல்லை; இரண்டும் ஒன்றோடொன்று மாறுபட்டு நிற்கின்றன என்று தலைவன் வியக்கிறான். 'பேதை' என்பது உலகியல் அறியாத இளம்பெண்.
