- கணவர் பிரிந்து சென்ற நாள் முதல் அவர் வரவைப் பார்த்துப் பார்த்து என் கண்கள் ஒளியை இழந்து மங்கிவிட்டன. அவர் போன நாட்களைச் சுவரில் ஒவ்வொன்றாகத் தொட்டுக் குறித்து எண்ணியதால் என் விரல்களும் தேய்ந்துவிட்டன என்று தலைவி கூறுகிறாள். இங்கு 'வாள்' என்பது ஒளியையும், 'புற்கென்ற' என்பது பொலிவிழந்து மங்கிய நிலையையும் குறிக்கின்றன. அன்புக்குரியவரின் வருகைக்காக நாள் எண்ணிக் காத்திருப்பது உடலையே வாட்டும் என்பதை இது காட்டுகிறது.
