- விளக்கம்
- தவம் என்பது அதற்குரிய தகுதியும் மன உறுதியும் உடையவர்களுக்கே பொருந்திப் பயன் தரும். அந்தத் தகுதி இல்லாதவர்கள் தவத்தை மேற்கொள்வது வீண் முயற்சியாகவே முடியும். இந்தத் தகுதியை முற்பிறவியில் செய்த நல்வினையாகக் கொள்வோரும் உண்டு. எந்தப் பெரிய செயலையும் தொடங்கும் முன், அதைத் தாங்கும் உள்ளவலிமை நமக்கு உண்டா என்று எண்ணிப் பார்ப்பது நல்லது.

- Penance bears fruit only for those who are truly fit for it; when people lacking that fitness take it up, their effort comes to nothing.
