நில்லாத வற்றை நிலையின என்றுணரும்

- விளக்கம்
- நில்லாதவை என்பவை செல்வம், இளமை, உடல் போன்ற நிலைத்து நிற்காதவை. அவற்றை என்றும் நிலைத்திருப்பவை என்று நம்பும் சிறுமையான அறிவைக் கொண்டிருப்பது மிகவும் இழிந்த நிலை என்று வள்ளுவர் கூறுகிறார். 'புல்லறிவு' என்றால் அற்பமான அறிவு; 'கடை' என்றால் கீழானது. நம்மிடம் இருப்பவை ஒருநாள் போகக்கூடியவை என்பதை உணர்ந்தால், அவற்றின் மேல் அளவுக்கு மீறிய பற்றும் செருக்கும் குறையும்.
