அடல்வேண்டும் ஐந்தன் புலத்தை விடல்வேண்டும்

- விளக்கம்
- கண், காது, மூக்கு, நாக்கு, உடல் என்னும் ஐந்து புலன்களும் நாடும் காட்சி, ஓசை, மணம், சுவை, தொடுகை ஆகியவற்றின் இழுப்பை ஒருவன் அடக்கி வெல்ல வேண்டும். அதோடு தான் இதுவரை விரும்பிய எல்லாவற்றையும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் முழுமையாக விட்டுவிட வேண்டும். சிலவற்றை மட்டும் விட்டுச் சிலவற்றை வைத்துக்கொள்வது உண்மையான துறவு ஆகாது.

- One must master the pull of the five senses and their objects, and give up everything one has desired, all of it together rather than bit by bit.
