- ஒரு பொருள் எந்த வகையைச் சேர்ந்ததாக இருந்தாலும், எப்படித் தோன்றினாலும், அதன் வெளித்தோற்றத்தில் மயங்காமல் அதன் உண்மையான தன்மையைக் கண்டறிவதே அறிவு ஆகும். அன்றாட வாழ்விலும், ஒருவரின் பேச்சையோ ஒரு செய்தியையோ மேலோட்டமாக ஏற்காமல், அதன் உண்மையை ஆராய்ந்து அறிவதே அறிவுடைமை.
